Job DescriptionThis is a hybrid role based at O-I Perrysburg HQ with in-office presence Tuesday-Thursday with work hours 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.
This position is accountable for the procurement of raw materials and cullet, ensuring best‑practice sourcing and optimal total cost of ownership while contributing directly to enterprise financial and operational objectives. The Specialist is responsible for one or more commodity areas, including raw materials and inbound logistics which represents approximately $300M in annual spend across 16 North America plants.
The Specialist leads RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs, negotiates supplier contracts in alignment with legal and business requirements, monitors supplier performance, and drives continuous improvement. Will lead / support strategic sourcing projects.
Responsibilities- Design and execute sourcing strategies for assigned spend categories that improve total cost of ownership, supplier performance, and supply continuity, under the strategic guidance of the commodity Procurement Manager
- Challenge existing sourcing approaches by identifying inefficiencies, assessing alternatives, and implementing improved solutions across the plant network
- Lead RFx processes end‑to‑end (RFI, RFP, RFQ), including scope definition, bid evaluation, commercial analysis, and supplier recommendations
- Translate business and plant requirements into executable sourcing solutions that balance cost, quality, delivery, and risk
- Negotiate supplier agreements and manage supplier performance to ensure contract compliance, issue resolution, and continuous improvement
- Implement sourcing initiatives across multiple plants that drive standardization, preferred supplier adoption, operational efficiency, and measurable savings
- Apply market intelligence, spend analytics, and TCO principles to select suppliers and sourcing strategies that deliver sustainable value
- Track, analyze, and communicate sourcing performance, including savings realization, supplier utilization, inflation impacts, and consumption trends
- Own issue resolution from root cause through implementation, partnering with suppliers and internal stakeholders to deliver durable solutions rather than temporary fixes
- Build strong, trust‑based partnerships with suppliers, plant teams, and cross‑functional stakeholders to enable change and adoption
- Deliver measurable cost savings and cost avoidance aligned with EBIT targets and broader value‑creation objectives
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience in Supply Chain, Business, or related field
- 5+ years experience in procurement, sourcing, supply chain, or related role, with demonstrated progression in scope and responsibility
- Proven experience supporting or executing strategic sourcing initiatives, including RFx processes, supplier evaluations, and cost-savings projects
- Supplier negotiation and contract management experience preferred, with the ability to engage suppliers independently and resolve routine issues
- Experience applying total cost of ownership concepts and data analysis to inform sourcing decisions
- Professional training or certification in Procurement, Supply Chain, Lean Six Sigma, Project Management, CPIM, or similar disciplines preferred
- Military experience considered, particularly where it demonstrates leadership and analytical thinking
- Up to 10% travel for training, plant engagement or project work
