Position Summary

The General Manager is responsible for the overall operation management of one or multiple stores in a single market. The role follows direction from the Vice President of Operations in inventory, sales, and profit. Compliance with policies and procedures, monitoring key employees, controlling inventory purchases and levels, and developing sales and communication are all components of this position. Effective communication with the field, internal departments, and external vendors is mandatory for the success of this position.

Supervisory

Responsibilities
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains staff for locations.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of locations.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Assists in maintaining the general health and welfare of all employees, customers, and all public contacts with the Company’s operational services within the established guidelines of safety processes, policies, and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for overall management of all aspects of the location, including production, sales, customer service, inventory management, delivery, safety, and administrative activities.
  • Plan and direct functions to meet operational and financial goals for the location.
  • Collaborate with local and senior management to develop operating budgets and capital expenditure recommendations for locations.
  • Communicate and enforce operating policies and procedures, as well as other compliance requirements pertaining to daily operations.
  • Motivate employees, maintain a productive workforce, and train other managers.
  • Support and reinforce company safety initiatives to ensure compliance with OSHA and DOT requirements and promote a healthy work environment.
  • Manage direct reports who manage various departments and are responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these departments.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Plan, assign, direct work, and address internal and external complaints.
  • Partner with HR to evaluate performance, reward, recognize, and discipline employees.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4‑year college or university and four years related work experience in lumber or building materials industry.
  • Multiple assignments in all phases of the business and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge or experience in building materials, procurement, inventory management, and supervision of people is required.
Work Environment
  • Work performed in various environments, including office setting, manufacturing environment, and outdoor lumber yard.
