Summary of relationship to the curriculum

Coordinators of Student Services offer assistance to instructional and support personnel in providing instructional and behavioral support and strategies in educational settings in order to improve student achievement. This position offers leadership to the student services department in providing quality service delivery in accordance with the system’s mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works effectively with the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, Director of Student Services, and building level student support personnel in developing and coordinating programs and services for students.
  • Provides leadership and works collaboratively with the Student Services Department in providing quality service delivery.
  • Provides technical assistance as needed and leads case reviews to ensure quality assessments and interventions are in place.
  • Consults with and lends support to special education and general education teachers in improving instruction, identifying program needs, and facilitating solutions to support student achievement.
  • Chairs and participates in parent conferences, support team meetings, placement meetings, and manifestation determination review hearings as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services and/or the Director of Student Services.
  • Maintains working relationships with community/state agencies that serve students with disabilities.
  • Assists schools and the school district in evaluating instructional strategies, organizational effectiveness, and other factors to ensure student success in the least restrictive environment possible.
  • Provides training and consultation services concerning the most current assessment practices such as, but not limited to: functional behavior assessments, response to intervention practices, and evaluation of autism spectrum disorders.
  • Evaluates the current service delivery processes to ensure alignment and compliance with federal and state laws and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) Standards.
  • Maintains and evaluates a bank of interventions based on research-based strategies to improve the academic, behavioral and social/emotional needs of children. Works effectively with school personnel in implementing appropriate interventions in order to improve student achievement.
  • Provides leadership and consultative services to the student support team on the special education referral process.
  • Reviews current developments, literature and technical source information related to increasing the academic achievement of special education students.
  • Provides current information to school district staff concerning the federal, state, and local board policies governing special education and the delivery of student services.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services.
Qualifications
  • Education and/or

    Experience:

    Master’s degree or higher in special education, psychology, counseling, or other related field. Administrative experience preferred.
  • Certificate or License

    Required:

    Must hold a valid Georgia Clear Renewable Professional certificate in special education, psychology, counseling, or other related field. Must be eligible for a valid Georgia Professional certificate in Educational Leadership.
  • Language

    Skills:

    Must have ability to apply teaching and learning principles to support the understanding of learning and behavior, ability to relay technical information to others in understandable terms, and ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Must have ability to write professional correspondences and reports. Must have ability to effectively present and articulate information in one-to-one and group situations to students, parents, school personnel and community agencies.
  • Mathematical

    Skills:

    Must have knowledge and understanding of general statistical procedures. Must have ability to collect and analyze assessment data, predict outcomes, formulate strategies for obtaining a desired result, and report/present findings in print and chart/graph.
  • Reasoning Ability: Must be able to facilitate the problem solving processes and use deductive reasoning. Must have ability to synthesize workable options from given facts, and assist in the development of workable solutions. Must effectively organize, plan and prioritize work.
  • Technical Ability: Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office and other job specified technologies.
  • Customer Service

    Skills:

    Must be capable of interacting and communicating effectively with district employees, stakeholders, community members, and the general public using tactful and helpful customer service.
Professional Requirements

Must serve as a role model. Desirable personal characteristics are required. Appropriate dress and grooming consistent with established standards required.

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to walk, stand, lift and occasionally crouch or kneel. The employee must be able to exert or lift up to 50 pounds.
