Taylor County, FL Director of Engineering

Taylor County (approx. pop. 22,000) is a coastal county nestled in the “Big Bend” area of Florida, spanning approximately 1,200 square miles. The County is an inviting and welcoming community with a small‑town feel and some of the best hunting and fishing in Florida. With nearly 60 miles of coastline, four rivers, and numerous streams, creeks, and springs, the County borders Apalachee Bay, has natural and artificial reefs, and provides quick access to the Gulf.

In addition to its world‑class saltwater fishing and tournaments, the County has tranquil, beautiful woodlands, parks, music festivals, nature trails, an impressive sports complex, and more.

Taylor County has an Administrator form of government and is governed by a five‑member Board of County Commissioners elected by districts and serving a four‑year term. The Board appoints the County Administrator, performs legislative, budgetary, and policy‑making functions, and advocates for citizens at all levels of government.

The County has 82 FTEs and provides traditional services, including Building & Planning, Engineering Services, Environmental Services, Fire & Rescue, Library, Parks & Recreation, Personnel, Public Works, Purchasing, and Technology Services, among others. The County is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director of Engineering, which reports to the County Administrator and is a highly responsible, technical, supervisory, and administrative position.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or college, preferably in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, and possession of a Florida professional engineer (P.

E.) license. The starting salary is dependent upon qualifications and is accompanied by a competitive benefits package. Florida does not have a state income tax.
