We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Lead Electrical Controls Engineer to join our growing team at Nammo Energetics (NEI), the division of Nammo Group responsible for establishing a solid rocket motor manufacturing facility located in Perry, Florida. NEI will oversee the design, construction, qualification, and staffing for the facility, targeting initial production in 2027.

This position is on-site at the Nammo Energetics Office in Downtown, Perry, Florida and requires occasional travel to Raufoss, Norway within the first 12–18 months. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and develop new control systems, including PLC/HMI programming and VFD programming, and produce appropriate schematics.
  • Coordinate equipment purchasing for the new rocket motor facility.
  • Transition and commission new equipment to the facility.
  • Assist with design, development, and layout of electrical panels for new and existing equipment, specifying components and ensuring compliance with safety and electrical requirements.
  • Document all new and existing equipment panel layouts and electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical 2024.
  • Perform Arc‑flash hazard analysis and calculations.
  • Design and specify electrical panels and components that meet hazardous location wiring codes.
  • Identify and implement solutions to PLC control logic to improve safety, quality, production, and cost.
  • Ensure equipment is installed and maintained in conformance with current codes and regulations.
  • Recommend improvements to new and existing equipment to optimize production processes and specify corrective actions.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for all controls‑related troubleshooting.
  • Determine preventative maintenance actions and provide documentation to maintenance.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and operational groups on preventative maintenance, machine repair, predictive maintenance, and equipment performance improvements.
  • Maintain good employee relations and adhere to the company's affirmative action plan, labor laws, and EEOC rules and regulations.
  • Maintain adherence to company policies and procedures, safety and environmental standards, and good housekeeping practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What Dedicated Teammates Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably Controls/ Electrical Engineering, or a combination of education and at least 5 years of work experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment providing technical support to semi‑automated and manual processes.
  • Expertise in Siemens PLC S7‑1500 with WinCC Advanced Runtime, TIA Portal V20, and related Siemens platforms; knowledge of Emerson PAC Machine Edition V10 and Prolific Machine Edition V9 is a plus.
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of control and electrical system design and its application in automated industrial designs.
  • Experience using AutoCAD Electrical 2014 (or newer) and proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Experience with Cognex vision cameras and troubleshooting PLC/HMI code is required.
  • Ability to create and troubleshoot electrical and pneumatic schematics, program VFDs, servo actuators, and robots.
  • Ability to read and follow mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Process Safety Management (PSM) plans.
  • Self‑starter who can work independently and manage multiple projects efficiently, meeting deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
