Sustainability Specialist

Salary: $70,300 per year

This role supports municipal recycling and sustainability programs while representing CR&R in the communities we serve. You will work with cities, businesses, and residents to promote recycling participation, track program performance, and support environmental compliance reporting.

This position combines data analysis, program coordination, and community outreach to help ensure successful recycling and waste diversion initiatives.

Our Sustainability Specialists help cities meet environmental goals while strengthening community partnerships. Your work supports recycling participation, regulatory compliance, and CR&R’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

• Maintain tracking and reporting for municipal recycling and sustainability programs
• Work with city staff and consultants to support contract compliance
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual diversion and program reports
• Conduct waste audits for commercial and multi-family accounts
• Support public education and outreach programs for recycling initiatives
• Represent CR&R at community events, civic meetings, and outreach programs
• Coordinate facility tours and support sustainability projects

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Environmental Science, or related field
• 2+ years of experience in sustainability programs, environmental outreach, or related work
• Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills
• Strong communication, presentation, and public speaking abilities
• Ability to work with community groups, businesses, and local government agencies
• Valid driver’s license required
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
