Job Description

POSITION: Class V - Maintenance Mechanic (Anticipated)

LOCATION: Maintenance

AVAILABLE: ASAP

COMPENSATION: In accordance with the PESPA Collective Bargaining Agreement

HOURS: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

REPORTS TO AND IS EVALUATED BY: Director of Operations

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION: To perform a variety of maintenance services necessary to support the continuous operation of the District-wide buildings and grounds in a safe, secure, comfortable, clean and well-ordered manner for all employees, students and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Load/offload materials, supplies, desks, file cabinets, chairs, appliances, shop equipment and machines, HVAC equipment and other similarly sized items to/from trucks. Transport and situate these items as necessary between district buildings and occasionally between outside sources and district buildings.
  • Assist Facility Manager and Grounds Keeper to include, but not limited to, the mowing and trimming of grass, as needed.
  • Clean trash/debris from District-wide grounds as needed.
  • Remove broken windows, temporarily secure window opening, and replace, or arrange for vendor to replace the glass as necessary.
  • Clean Technology Education (“Shop”) dust collectors at the secondary schools.
  • Assist Maintenance Department personnel with the completion of projects as may be required by the District.
  • Perform drywall and masonry repairs as needed.
  • Paint and/or apply stains or preservatives to material surfaces as directed.
  • Serve as Substitute Facility Manager when needed.
  • Install window air conditioner units, signs, blackboards, whiteboards, tack boards, cleaning chemical proportioning systems, soap and paper dispensers and other items of similar complexity.
  • Perform snow removal and de-icing as required.
  • Attend scheduled Maintenance Department meetings.
  • If designated as the District Contractor/Supervisor:
    Perform annual District-wide inspection of asbestos containing material in all buildings. Prepare report noting condition assessment and inform building Facility Managers and Director of Operations of any specific changes in condition/damage to asbestos containing materials.
  • Skilled in operation of welding methods (MIG, TIG, Arc, Oxy-acetylene) as may be required by District.
  • Experience of operation and maintenance of grinders, torches, plasma cutters, overhead cranes, light and heavy equipment including backhoe and front-end loaders as may be required by District.
  • Experience and knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction, modification or repair of roofs, walls, ceiling, doors and/or door frames as may be required by District.
  • Experience and knowledge with the installation, maintenance, opening and repairing locks including door locks and hardware as may be required by District.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.
  • Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (“GED”).
  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License and a good driving record.
  • Knowledgeable of safety regulations, Right-to-Know laws and procedures for working with asbestos-containing materials in schools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability and willingness to follow written and verbal directions.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks and to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds frequently and to lift and/or move up to 90 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work in varied and extreme temperatures.
  • Maintain current asbestos “Contractor/Supervisor” certification in conformance with AHERA regulations as may be…
