Travel RNFA opportunity in Peoria, IL — 13-week travel nursing assignment for an experienced Operating Room RN First Assistant with robotic and open general surgery experience. Perfect for perioperative RNs seeking high-volume general surgery OR experience in Central Illinois.

- Start Date: March 4, 2026
- End Date: June 3, 2026
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Setting: Acute Care, General Surgery OR (31 suites across two buildings; 15 general surgery rooms)
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $3,250 – $3,420 (competitive weekly pay for travel RNFA)
- Hours: 40 hours per week (guaranteed)
- Shift: 8-hour days, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM; weeknight call required (no weekends or holidays)
- Shift Duration: 8 Hour Days
- Call Requirement: Yes (response time within 30 minutes; call depends on physician need for evening cases)
- Orientation: 12 hours unit-specific orientation
- Charting System: Epic OpTime (Epic experience preferred)
Job Requirements
- Active Illinois RN license (or proof of application in process) — Illinois nursing jobs
- RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant) certification required
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- At least 2 years of recent RNFA or perioperative RN experience in a high-volume operating room
- Robotic and open general surgery experience required (robotic colon, hernias, gastric sleeve & bypass, cholecystectomies)
- Experience with firing staplers and assisting surgeons during complex procedures
- Ability to produce a negative drug screen (drug-free campus policy)
- Epic OpTime experience preferred — experience with perioperative charting systems
- Serve as surgical first assistant for a wide range of general surgery cases, including robotic and open procedures — surgical first assistant responsibilities
- Provide expert first-assist functions: exposure, retraction, hemostasis, tissue handling, and suturing under surgeon direction
- Assist surgeons with robotic colon resections, hernia repairs, gastric sleeve and bypass procedures, and cholecystectomies
- Maintain sterile field and adhere to perioperative safety standards to optimize patient outcomes — perioperative RN standards
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and nursing leadership as part of a multidisciplinary perioperative team
- Accurately document perioperative care and first-assist details in Epic Op Time
- Complete unit-specific orientation and comply with all hospital policies, procedures, and competency requirements
- Promote a positive, team-oriented OR culture and support continuous quality improvement in the surgical department
