American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position in an adult medical specialty unit at a Level I trauma acute care facility, requiring an active IL RN license and BLS certification.

Responsibilities
  • Work in an Adult Medical Specialty Unit (Med/Surg) within an acute care setting
  • Setting is a Level I trauma center
  • Unit has 56 private and semi‑private beds
  • Patient to nurse ratio 1:4‑5 from 07:00‑23:00 and 1:5‑6 from 23:00‑07:30
  • Patient population includes acute general medical cases such as cellulitis, sepsis, electrolyte imbalances, diabetes complications, organ failure, behavioral health, and addictions
  • Common procedures and equipment include central lines, tracheostomies, chest tubes, Bipap/Cpap administration, and Philips telemetry monitors
  • Remote house‑wide telemetry monitoring; RNs can view strips on packs or computer
  • Shift is 12 hours, nights, with every other weekend required
  • Self‑scheduling and block scheduling available via API system
  • Floating required to other acute care general med areas (nephrology, neuro, ortho, oncology)
  • No call or standby requirement
  • EMR is Epic;
    Epic experience preferred
  • Unit maintains a free‑charge RN on every shift
  • Patient care techs assist with vital signs, accucheks, bladder scans, and ADLs with a ratio of 1:8‑10
  • Unit orientation includes 2‑3 shifts
  • Professional scrubs in any color are permitted; no visible tattoos or piercings except ears
  • COVID‑19 vaccine is not required for this position
  • Holiday coverage expectations may vary
  • Local candidates within 50 miles eligible at a local pay rate
  • First‑time travelers will be considered if other requirements are met
Requirements
  • Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
  • BLS (AHA) certification required
  • Minimum one year of recent Med/Surg nursing experience
  • Experience with central lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Travel experience on a Med/Surg floor preferred; will consider candidates with Level I trauma center experience and Epic experience without travel experience
