Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) position in an acute care, trauma level 1 setting, requiring an active IL RN license and strong cardiac critical care skills.
Responsibilities- Position is in a 20-bed Adult Cardiac Intermediate Unit within a hospital ICU environment
- Patient population includes stepdown patients from AHU ICU, post-cardiac procedures, heart failure, patients with tracheostomies and ventilators, and overflow from other stepdown units including COVID cases
- Nurse to patient ratios typically 1:3, can increase to 1:4 depending on acuity
- Specialized equipment used:
Swan Ganz catheters, external pacemakers, PICC lines, midlines, CVCs, arterial lines, ventilators, CPAP/BiPAP, heated high flow, temporary pacemakers, IABPs, and Philips monitoring - RNs titrate numerous drips such as dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epi, neo, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol
- Requires working three 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) per week, with rotating weekends and holidays
- Floating required to every level of care, including ICU
- Unit uses Epic EMR;
Epic experience preferred - Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7; PCTs present with varying ratios
- Responsibilities include advanced cardiac care, monitoring, managing ventilated and complex cardiac patients, and titrating critical drips
- Travelers are expected to float to all related care areas and take full assignments, including in ICU if needed
- Expected to interpret cardiac strips and use advanced monitoring equipment independently
- Orientation consists of one day unit-specific and two days with a preceptor
- Dress code requires clean and appropriate scrubs with no specific color; scrubs are not provided
- Holiday and every other to every third weekend coverage required
- Local clinicians within 50 miles are welcome but will have a local pay rate applied
- COVID vaccination is not required for this position
- Active Illinois RN license in hand at time of consideration
- Current BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS preferred; CCRN or PCCN a plus
- Minimum two years of recent CVICU or Cardiac ICU experience required with ability to care for this patient population independently
- Proficient in CVICU-specific interventions, including interpreting telemetry strips and titrating cardiovascular drips
- Strong assessment, communication, critical thinking, organization, and teamwork skills
- Experience with Epic EMR preferred
- Must be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
