Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN First Assist (RNFA) with IL RN licensure and strong robotic and open surgery skills for a hospital-based OR position.

• Work in a hospital operating room environment within the general surgery department
• Assist in a high-volume OR with 31 suites and 15 general surgery rooms
• Average of 40-60 general surgery cases per day including robotic colon, hernias, gastric sleeves, gastric bypasses, and cholecystectomies
• Required to scrub in and assist the surgeon during procedures
• Weekday schedule Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with call as needed depending on physician case coverage
• 30-minute response time required when on call
• Call is limited to weekday evenings; no weekend or holiday call
• Uses Epic EMR for charting
• No floating to other units required
• Scrubs are provided
• Assists in a variety of general surgery procedures in collaboration with surgeons
• Orientation includes 12 hours of department-specific training
• Reports to the charge nurse and works with a dedicated team that includes surgical technologists
• Drug-free campus with a requirement for passing a drug screen covering all panels
• No COVID vaccine requirement
• No radius rules; local rates apply for those residing within 50 miles

• Active IL RN license required
• Certified as a Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Minimum of 2 years of OR RN experience with both robotic and open procedures
• Experience required with firing staplers and robotic case assistance
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• All licenses and certifications must be active at time of consideration
