Overview

The Nursing Professional Development Specialist supports the Cath Lab, working a rotating shift schedule of 3 shifts one week and 2 the next, with occasional off shifts. The RN works with the Clinical Education team to meet educational responsibilities, including orientation, competency management, education, role development, collaborative partnerships, and research/evidence‑based practice/quality improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicates with others directly and in private to resolve issues.
  • Offers constructive feedback to assist in professional development of peers.
  • Identifies own learning needs and initiates solutions.
  • Fulfills all departmental competency requirements.
  • Establishes positive work relationships with physicians, department heads, and administration.
  • Demonstrates best practices for staff to follow.
  • Ensures documentation of care is complete and accurate.
  • Communicates changes in patient conditions to providers.
  • Performs needs assessments and identifies practice gaps.
  • Designs and delivers education sessions.
  • Evaluates learner response and outcomes to patient care.
  • Facilitates training on new products, policies, and practices.
  • Supports onboarding for new clinical hires.
  • Rounds on staff to support transitions, competency completion, and retention.
  • Mentors and guides unit and department educators.
  • Facilitates planning, development, and education of clinic staff to meet environmental care standards.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory standards related to education.
  • Collaborates with nurse managers and staff to assess learning needs and competencies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license in Illinois upon hire.
  • BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
