Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN with an active IL license and proficiency in Epic for a major surgery unit assignment.

Responsibilities

• Position is in the general (major) surgery operating room of an acute care hospital

• Unit consists of 14 main general surgery suites with a total of 28 operating rooms

• Handlessurgical cases per day including general, gynecology, urology, vascular, ENT, and DaVinci robotic procedures

• Works closely with surgical technologists and is supported by a charge nurse

• Evening shift from 1230 to 2100 with a weekly on-call shift from 2300 to 0700

• Call coverage required every other or third full weekend depending on staffing needs

• Call response time is 30 minutes

• Schedule is block scheduled based on unit needs with no self-scheduling

• Floating may occur to other surgery teams or sterile processing if qualified

• Uses Epic EMR (OP TIME); experience required

• Hospital-provided scrubs are required

• Unit-specific orientation provided, up to one week if needed

• Responsible for assisting in a high-volume OR environment with a range of surgical specialties

• Works collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary surgical team

• Hospital is a drug-free campus and compliance is mandatory

• First week includes hospital and unit-specific orientation

• Local candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles are eligible for a local rate

• No COVID vaccination is required for employment

• No specific holiday call requirements listed

• Sleep policy provides 8 hours off after call if more than 4 hours are worked past 2300

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at the time of consideration

• Minimum 2 years of recent experience in general surgery, gynecology, urology, and ENT

• Current BLS certification (AHA required)

• Recent experience in facilities and ORs of similar size preferred

• Experience with Epic EMR required

• Ability to work evening shifts and meet on-call requirements

• Must provide negative drug screen for all panels
