Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Med/Surg position in a surgical acute care setting requiring an active IL license and BLS certification.
Responsibilities- Position is based in a hospital surgical acute unit within a medical-surgical environment
- Unit has 63 beds with a mix of post-op surgical, trauma, and overflow medical patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5 patients per RN on days and 5-6 patients per RN on nights
- Some patients are on telemetry monitoring with Philips monitors and dedicated monitor techs
- Patient care involves wound care, dressing changes, pain management, IV therapy, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
- Equipment includes use of CPAP and high flow; RNs manage inhalers and can place patients on CPAP
- Charting is performed with EPIC with a unit-specific orientation for the system
- Schedules are 12-hour night shifts with shifts running
- Every other weekend and rotating holiday coverage is required
- Travelers are the first to float to units with similar levels of care and do not self-schedule
- Responsibilities include post-op care, wound care, IV management, and supporting trauma and overflow medical populations
- Charge RNs are preassigned and do not take a patient assignment, with house supervisor on site 24/7
- Support staff include patient care techs who assist with ADLs, vitals, and mobility
- Orientation includes two shifts with a preceptor and an additional 12-hour shift for EPIC and unit orientation
- Any color scrubs may be worn
- Drug screen is required as part of compliance for a drug-free campus
- COVID vaccination is not required for this assignment
- No local radius rule; local pay applies for candidates residing within 50 miles
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- Current BLS (AHA) certification required
- Minimum of 1 year recent Med/Surg experience required
- Post-op patient care skills, critical thinking, and teamwork are essential
- Experience using EPIC EMR is preferred
- Ability to manage common Med/Surg interventions and care for surgical/trauma populations
