Expected pay for this position is $17.66 - $19.63/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is an hourly position.

Overview

The Central Processing Laboratory Specimen Processor performs a variety of lab duties in a high volume, fast paced, production‑like environment. The position works independently and as part of a team, handling multiple tasks simultaneously for the timely receipt and routing of laboratory specimens (such as blood, urine, stool, tissue, and body fluid) according to established turnaround times. Responsibilities include sample triage, receipt, and tracking activities, accurate patient identification, specimen labeling, entering and updating electronic medical records, calling critical laboratory test results, answering incoming phone calls, assisting with courier dispatch, training new employees, and performing various clerical duties.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    High School/GED.
  • Experience:

    1 year in a fast‑paced work environment; 6 months in a customer service role.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and website navigation.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Positive, professional attitude and demeanor.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year of experience working in a laboratory or medical/healthcare or office setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience working with an electronic medical record system, such as Epic.
  • High attention to detail to verify/match letters and numbers to prevent mislabeling.
  • Organized, able to prioritize and multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment with tight turnaround times.
  • Maintain composure while working under pressure; ability to perform job duties with frequent interruptions and/or distractions.
  • Critical thinking, problem‑solving skills, decisive judgment and follow through.
