Step into Leadership as a Discipline Lead – Mechanical at Dewberry in Peoria!
Dewberry’s Peoria office is seeking a Discipline Lead – Mechanical, who will be responsible for delivering on project commitments, assigning and leading resources across discipline areas. The Discipline Lead will also assist Project/Client Managers by providing a design team to help meet client desires and budgets. Duties include involvement in direct MEP sales and supporting sales efforts for multidisciplinary projects.
Key Required Skills- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Professional Engineer with 10+ years of experience
- Experience in design of various MEP systems
- Good conceptual understanding of plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems with general knowledge of system operation, space requirements, cost
- Grow, mentor, and develop staff to reach their maximum potential
- Conduct minimum annual evaluations for each direct report
- Provide leadership for the department
- Organize staff to allow career advancement, professional development, quality client service, and operational efficiencies
- Take an active role in recruitment, networking, interviewing, and closing hires
- Establish and improve department standards for operation and workflow
- Ensure the department has tools needed for efficient, thorough work
- Work with Principal Engineers to establish, update and adhere to design standards
Discipline Leads are expected to provide the following:
- Work schedule for department showing: project assignments, priorities, delivery due dates, workload/capacity forecast
- Participate in Go/No Go decisions for resource commitments
- Participate in developing fee proposals and establishing project budgets
- Review project objectives and provide detailed scope of services for contracts
- Identify staff performing design and senior staff if required
- Identify Engineer of Record
- Adhere to project design schedule
- Notify Project/Client Managers if schedule cannot be met
- Adhere to department project budgets; review and provide updates at milestone dates and weekly
- Provide general updates on project status, tasks, and percentage complete
- Account for all production resources and commitments from department leaders
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Professional Engineer with 10+ years of experience
- Knowledgeable of construction process, familiar with AIA construction contracts
- Self‑motivated with strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
- Experience in staff or department management
- Experience in design of various MEP systems
- Well organized and attentive to detail
- Good conceptual understanding of plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems with general knowledge of system operation, space requirements, and cost
The projected salary range for this position is $154,000–$198,000 annually. The range may vary slightly based on skills, experience, location, and market conditions.
