Overview
Safety Coordinator – Roles and Responsibilities (Orbia Standard)
The Safety Leader is responsible for ensuring that all construction, mechanical, and operational activities are performed in compliance with Orbia’s Safety policies, site regulations, and applicable legal requirements. The role provides continuous field presence, oversight, and safety leadership to ensure safe execution during all phases of the project.
Roles and Responsibilities Safety Compliance & Field OversightEnsure full adherence to Orbia’s Life‑Saving Rules, site safety procedures, and regulatory safety requirements. Conduct regular field inspections to verify compliance and immediately correct unsafe conditions or behaviors.
Support issuing, validating, and closing of permits (hot work, confined space, line breaking, electrical isolation, etc.). Verify that all permits include appropriate risk assessments and mitigation measures.
Identify hazards proactively and report near-misses, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions. Support or lead incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented and tracked.
Contractor Safety CoordinationOversee the safety performance of contractors, ensuring their compliance with Orbia standards, job hazard analyses (JHAs), toolbox talks, and daily safety expectations.
Ensure emergency response plans are communicated, understood, and practiced by all field personnel. Verify availability and readiness of emergency equipment.
Daily ReportingSubmit daily Safety Reports including observations, corrective actions, KPIs, and site safety metrics. Provide timely updates to Project Manager.
Field Audits & Safety WalkdownsConduct routine safety audits, housekeeping evaluations, and walkdowns with cross‑functional teams. Track findings to closure.
Ensure all workers have required safety training, certifications, and site orientations. Validate specialized qualifications as applicable (e.g., scaffolding, rigging, crane operations).
Provide direct input to the Pre‑Startup Safety Review, ensuring mechanical and operational readiness align with safety requirements before energizing or starting equipment.
Documentation & Compliance RecordsMaintain accurate records of inspections, training, incidents, permits, and safety meetings. Ensure all documentation complies with Orbia regulatory standards and audit requirements.
