Assists teachers, students, and parents with interpreting and translating between the native language and English. Serves as a liaison between the native language community and the school to help each understand the needs and services of the school. Performs EL Interpreter Bilingual Aide tasks as assigned by the teacher and approved by the Assistant Director for Student Services, English Learners and District Equity.
Qualifications- Ability to work with linguistically and culturally diverse students.
- Fluency in a language other than English and the ability to communicate effectively and fluently in English and Arabic, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Detail-oriented, industrious, knowledgeable of school procedures, and evidence of successful experience working with students.
- Exhibits interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Interpret verbal and translate written communication for students, teachers, and parents.
- Assist teachers in organizing and implementing instruction for students to improve academic success.
- Administer tests, homework, make‑up work, etc. to devise special strategies for reinforcing materials and skills based on individual needs.
- Instruct students individually or in groups with lesson activities and assignments, modifying activities to match proficiency levels.
- Assist in maintaining various records (forms, student profile cards, attendance records) for up‑to‑date references and compliance with EL program requirements.
- Monitor students individually or in groups to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Encourage students to exhibit behaviors and study habits that lead to academic success.
- Consult with teachers, counselors, nurses, attendance office, and administrators as required.
- Serve as liaison between parents, students, and the school, explaining policies, procedures, support systems, programs, resources, and instructional goals.
- Assist staff with understanding cultural traditions of the native language.
- Model positive attitudes and effective work ethic, displaying professional and ethical behavior with students and staff.
- Attend meetings and staff development programs when requested.
- Enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
- Perform any duties within scope of employment as assigned by teacher, principal, or coordinators.
- Bilingual in English and Arabic, with proficiency in reading, writing, interpreting, and translation.
- Ability to write professional communications.
- Ability to respond to questions from individuals and groups.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community members.
- Communicate clearly and concisely with effective communication skills.
- Regular sitting, talking, or hearing tasks.
- Frequent standing, walking, operating machines, reaching, typing.
- Visual acuity for close vision and VDT use.
- Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds.
- Moderate noise level.
- Fast pace of work tasks.
- Primarily at one site, with occasional travel to meetings, conferences, workshops.
