The OpportunityWe are seeking an experienced and driven Project Manager to join our team in the Greater Chicago Area. In this role you will lead a skilled construction team focused on general civil contracting across road and bridge construction, utilities, and site work. This is a dynamic, high-impact position that blends office-based project management with active job site presence — offering the opportunity to take full ownership of complex infrastructure projects from planning through successful delivery.
WhatYou'll Do
Scheduling & Planning
- Responsible for developing, maintaining, and updating cost-loaded and resource-loaded CPM schedules, ensuring the project team has a clear and accurate roadmap at every stage.
- Prepare monthly schedule reports and narratives, maintain two-week look-ahead schedules, and develop comprehensive construction plans and safety procedures that keep the project on track and the team working safely.
- Taking ownership of the project's financial performance, you will prepare and continuously update construction cost reports and labor productivity reports.
- Determine quantities of work performed and prepare monthly payment requisitions for both the owner contract and all subcontracts and purchase orders.
- Review and approve material and subcontractor invoices, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
Project Controls & Documentation
- Manage the full documentation cycle — preparing and tracking requests for information, change orders, correspondence, and other transmittals using project management software.
Technical Oversight
- Review and interpret construction drawings and specifications across all disciplines, providing technical guidance and direction to the project team.
- Deep understanding of civil construction methods and sequencing will be essential to anticipating challenges, resolving issues proactively, and maintaining momentum on site.
- Supervise and mentor project engineers and field engineers while coordinating closely with superintendents to align field execution with project plans.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable team culture where clear communication and shared ownership of outcomes are the standard.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management and bring 10+ years of heavy civil construction field experience, including a demonstrated track record of managing complex road, bridge, utility, or site work projects.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe, and have the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications across multiple disciplines.
- Decisive, independent thinker who thrives under pressure, meets critical deadlines, and brings out the best in the teams around you.
- Knowledge of Primavera P6 scheduling software and familiarity with AutoCAD or Micro Station are considered strong assets.
