Position: Student Services Specialist (STEM)

Overview

Student Services Specialist (STEM) – Glendale Community College (Maricopa County Community College District)

Location:

Peoria, AZ (Glendale Community College site). Salary: $19.17 - $23.99/hourly, DOE. Grade 109.

Work Schedule:

Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm; some evenings and weekends may be required. Summer hours:
Monday–Thursday, 7am–6pm. Calendar: 12 Months. Job type:
Full-time, Regular. This position is within a community college district that includes 10 colleges and MCCCD offices.

Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 case-management style advising and support services in-person, hybrid, and virtual formats to support degree completion in assigned Fields of Interest and/or specialty student populations.
  • Monitor advisement and enrollment progress; guide students on goal setting, degree/certificate options, transfer pathways, course selection, and academic progress using People Soft and other technology.
  • Support group advising, new student orientation, and other departmental service areas; prepare and present at events that support student success (degree information sessions, student groups, graduation, etc.). Track and report outreach to the assigned student cohort.
  • Identify academic options including extracurricular activities, study abroad programs, research, and internships; advise students on options aligned with goals and connect them with additional resources as needed.
  • Participate in enrollment and retention projects; maintain program resource information, presentations, reports, correspondence, and promotional materials. Assist with financial aid processing forms and related duties as needed.
  • Attend departmental meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities; perform other duties as assigned, commensurate with the grade level.
Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, and one year of full-time experience in student services, college teaching, or related student development programs (education program coordination, advisement, financial aid, etc.).

OR

An equivalent combination of a conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience sufficient to perform the essential duties, as described above, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • One or more years of experience providing academic advising in a college setting within the last 2 years.
  • One year of experience entering records in a student information system (e.g., People Soft).
  • Effective written communication skills (as evidenced by application materials).
  • Two or more years of customer service experience.
Special Working Conditions
  • Travel to MCCCD locations required; travel during interview process at candidate's own expense.
  • May require numerous evenings or weekends and prolonged periods of screen time.
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs.
