Are you passionate about making sure homes are built safely and up to code? Love being out in the field and solving problems on the spot? We’re looking for a detail-oriented and hands-on Residential Building Inspector to help keep our city safe, beautiful, and up to standard!
In this role, you’ll be performing inspections on residential construction to ensure everything meets building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing codes — along with city ordinances and state and federal laws. From foundations to finishes, you’ll be the go-to expert making sure every project checks out.

Key Responsibilities- Inspect new residential construction to ensure compliance with approved plans and all applicable building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and zoning codes.
- Investigate complaints related to unsafe or unauthorized construction and follow up to ensure proper corrective action is taken.
- Provide code interpretation and guidance to contractors, property owners, and the public regarding building requirements and inspection procedures.
- Enter inspection results into databases, maintain records, prepare reports, and attend meetings as needed.
- Stay current on new materials, construction methods, and code updates by attending training and reviewing industry standards.
- Advise contractors, architects, engineers, and property owners on construction methods, materials, occupancy types, and code requirements.
- Review residential building plans and specifications to ensure code compliance for installations, repairs, and alterations.
- Issues stop work or correction notices when construction activities are found to be in violation of applicable codes.
- High school graduation or equivalency.
- 2-4 years’ experience in the same or similar previous positions.
- Experience in residential construction may be considered for equivalency.
- Work requires heavy physical exertion and effort.
- Valid Arizona Class “D” Driver’s License upon hire.
