Job Description
We are seeking High Voltage Substation Electricians/Technicians to become an integral part of our team. In this role you will perform structural and electrical work inside high‑voltage substations, learning to install steel structures, porcelain insulators, high‑voltage equipment, assemble high‑voltage gang‑operated switches, pull control cable, and carry out other tasks required to construct and modify substations. Work is throughout Florida, typically five days a week with occasional weekend and overnight work when required.
Successful candidates must spend a minimum of three months with existing crews in South Florida to learn our safety methods and work culture, demonstrating respect for everyone.
Responsibilities- Substation Technician Assistant (0–3 years)
- Recognize and control hazards in a substation.
- Observe and practice all corporate safety policies and procedures.
- Follow instructions to perform quality work.
- Learn by self‑performing homework, attending free training classes, and through on‑the‑job training.
- Install electrical below and above grade raceways and wiring.
- Substation Technician (3–6 years)
- Install Copper Weld grounding.
- Bend, fit, and install bus bar.
- Operate hypress, hydraulic Octopus bender, magnetic drill for precision holes in structural steel, hydraulic bus punch for NEMA 4‑hole connections.
- Clean, grease, properly install bolts & Belleville washers, and torque high‑voltage connections.
- Read and understand installation instructions and wiring diagrams for basic equipment.
- Perform all responsibilities of Substation Technician Assistant.
- Senior Substation Technician (6–10 years)
- Interpret electrical construction blueprints and elementary drawings.
- Install equipment related to metering, communication systems, and relaying systems (electro‑mechanical and solid‑state electronic).
- Perform all phases of installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of electrical and instrumentation systems and service work.
- Install, repair, and maintain electrical motors, complex electronic devices, control panels, relays, conduit, and switches.
- Use meter and motor testing equipment and understand control schematics and system phasing.
- Assemble three‑pole motor‑operated switches, install circuit switchers with shunt trip, troubleshoot and solve problems on devices being installed.
- Perform all responsibilities of Substation Technician.
- Lead Substation Technician (10+ years)
- Supervise a crew of up to ten people.
- Coordinate with management to ensure crew has the tools and equipment needed for safe, reliable work.
- Schedule monthly, weekly, and daily crew work; coordinate job material and equipment availability.
- Plan and coordinate with onsite customer supervision and other contractors on the job site.
- Ensure job is completed safely, reliably, and on schedule.
- Perform all responsibilities of Senior Substation Technician.
- Substation Technician Assistant (0–3 years)
- Integrity – do the right thing when no one is watching.
- Ability to work hard outside under the hot sun.
- High work ethic, desire to safely complete any job.
- Honesty.
- Clean driving and background record for at least 7 years.
- CDL preferred.
- Willing to take a random drug test.
- Team player.
- Substation Technician (3–6 years)
- OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certifications preferred.
- All qualifications for Substation Technician Assistant.
- Senior Substation Technician (6–10 years)
- Knowledge of technical practices needed to plan, layout, and complete maintenance or repair of high‑voltage equipment.
- Skilled in using and maintaining electrical tools and test equipment (rotation meters, digital test equipment, ammeters, voltmeters, meggers).
- Knowledge of substation grounding to create an equipotential work zone and skill in installing protection grounds.
- Related experience in a high‑voltage environment.
- All qualifications for Substation Technician.
- Lead Substation Technician (6–10 years)
- Ability to lead crew through example.
- Safety and quality oriented.
- Willingness to share experiences with others.
- Ability to respectfully tell subordinates how to improve when necessary.
- Ability to recognize and give praise to subordinates when deserved.
