We are seeking a hands‑on Machine Shop Production Manager to lead daily production operations in our machine shop. This role combines leadership and technical capability you will manage scheduling, quality, safety, and workflow while also being able to operate CNC equipment, perform welding and metal painting, and interpret mechanical drawings. The ideal candidate has strong shop‑floor presence, problem‑solving skills, and experience implementing and maintaining quality control processes.
Key Responsibilities- Production & Scheduling
- Plan and manage daily/weekly production schedules to meet delivery, quality, and cost targets.
- Assign work orders, balance machine and labor utilization, and ensure efficient workflow across CNC, welding, and finishing (painting).
- Monitor WIP, lead times, and capacity; elevate constraints and recommend solutions.
- Lead, train, and mentor machinists, welders, and painters; set clear performance expectations.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct daily stand‑ups and regular performance check‑ins; coordinate staffing and hiring needs.
- Operate and set up CNC machines (mills/lathes); adjust tooling, offsets, and programs as needed.
- Perform welding (MIG/TIG/Stick) and oversee proper joint prep and post‑weld inspection.
- Supervise and perform metal painting/coating processes (prep, masking, mixing, spray application, cure).
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings/blueprints; verify tolerances, GD&T, and critical dimensions.
- Implement and enforce quality standards, inspection checkpoints, and documentation (first article, in‑process, and final inspection).
- Use precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMM as applicable); maintain calibration.
- Lead root‑cause analysis and corrective actions for defects; own nonconformance reporting.
- Enforce OSHA and company safety protocols; conduct safety meetings and corrective actions.
- Maintain clean, organized shop per 5S and best practices.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of paints/solvents/consumables.
- Continuous Improvement & Reporting
- Drive process improvements (setup reduction, tool management, standard work).
- Track KPIs (OTD, scrap/rework rate, throughput, labor efficiency) and report to leadership.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Procurement, and QA on new product introductions and change orders.
- Additional responsibilities as needed.
Required:
- 10+ years in a machine shop/manufacturing environment, including 2+ years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Proven ability to operate CNC equipment (setup, basic programming/offsets, troubleshooting).
- Proficiency in welding (MIG/TIG/Stick) with strong understanding of materials and weld quality.
- Experience with metal painting/coating processes (surface prep, spray techniques, cure).
- Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings/blueprints, including GD&T.
- Working knowledge of quality control methods, inspection tools, and documentation.
- Solid understanding of shop safety (OSHA), 5S, and lean manufacturing principles.
Preferred:
- Experience with CNC programming (G-code, CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar).
