Position SummaryThe attorney in this position provides legal representation to the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (Agency) under the direction of the General Counsel.
The Work You Will Do- Supports other Senior Attorneys in the Office of General Counsel in all aspects of litigation and administrative actions.
- Represents the Agency in litigation in various forums to include state trial and appellate courts, federal trial and appellate courts, and state and federal administrative forums.
- Performs a variety of legal services. Provides legal advice and guidance on Agency issues. Responds to oral and written requests from Agency personnel as directed by the General Counsel. Legal advice and guidance require careful research, exploration of the underlying facts, and discussions with appropriate staff.
- Conducts legal research, interprets statutes, reviews regulations, rules, and operating procedures as necessary in carrying out duties and responsibilities.
- Assists with the development and analysis of proposed legislation, rules, and policies/procedures.
- Assists with training Agency staff as needed.
- Travels as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Valid Driver's License or other reliable transportation to travel for work purposes.
- Willingness and ability to learn and adapt to continually evolving software and technology.
Knowledge
- Legal terminology.
- Florida laws and legal procedure, including administrative procedures and practices.
- Public records and their exemptions, HIPAA, and laws and ethics in government.
- Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint) and Adobe Acrobat.
Ability
- Provide legal counsel and represent the Agency at the administrative level.
- Perform legal research and prepare various legal documents.
- Interpret state and federal legislation, laws, and rules.
- Employ legal reasoning and to foresee possible legal problems.
- Communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
