Under the direction of the department manager, performs interpretive, patient care, and technical functions with a strong focus on MRI Safety to insure proper radiologic diagnosis of patients. The MRI Technologist participates in technical duties directly involved with MRI including developing, initiating, and monitoring procedures for the effective utilization of this unit. Functions as the first line interface with customers in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs.
Under the direction of the department manager and cardiologist, performs cardiac MRI including the ability to evaluate congenital heart disease, coronary disease, and myocardium viability and other diagnostic indications.
What you will do
- Assists in care and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and supplies.
- MRI Scanning of the Heart for Advanced Skill Set.
- Sets up and adjusts equipment per radiologist protocol for exam.
- Operates highly complex radiographic equipment within the radiology department.
- Relies on extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology to obtain the maximum diagnostic image corresponding to body parts.
- Receives and reviews requests for MRI’s.
- Accepts patients and assess’ their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements.
- Explains and prepares the patient for all MRI procedures.
- Possesses and utilizes proper aseptic technique and isolation procedures when appropriate.
- Assists in the administration and administers various medications under the direction of a physician in order to render specific organs or systems more opaque.
- Performs all responsibilities / duties required by the MR department to perform examinations.
- Assists with examination of higher complexity such as MR-guided biopsies, needle localizations etc.
- Quality controls all images, maintains inventory, and adheres to safety regulations. Participates in training of department personnel, including students.
- Performs work of equal skill, effort, and responsibility as directed and may perform work of a higher level in preparation for increased responsibility.
- Performs various clerical duties.
- Technical Diploma/Certificate Radiology Required
- High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
Licenses and Certifications
- BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
- Registered Technologist - Magnetic Resonance Imaging (RTMR) within 120 Days Required
- Registered Technologist (ARRT) Upon Hire Preferred
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Understand how to and be able to perform a basic cardiac MR function exam.
- Ability to perform flow assessment in aortic and mitral valves. Knowledge of basic imaging protocols for cardiac MRI for common referrals.
- Competence in MRI safety.
- Possesses a high level of knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
- Proficiency with most major MR equipment manufacturer's hardware and software.
- Must be able to multitask daily.
- Knowledge of filing systems, telephone etiquette and customer service.
- Medical terminology.
- Must be available for on call status, as needed, after normal operating hours.
