Job DescriptionThe Pharmacist is responsible for the interpretation and dispensing of medication orders, including the proper handling, usage, and storage of drugs in the pharmacy. This position maintains standards set by the department and translates policies and procedures into the daily operation of the pharmacy. The pharmacist also serves as an information resource to patients, physicians, nurses, and other health‑care professionals regarding medication therapy and drug‑related information and literature.
Responsibilities- Interpret physician medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness, inform physicians of any errors, omissions, or discrepancies, and suggest appropriate or alternate drug therapy.
- Maintain accurate patient medication profiles and monitor drug choice, dosage, strength, length of therapy, and interaction potential.
- Conform to legal requirements regarding the distribution of drugs, maintain current knowledge of pharmacy developments, and pursue continuing education through conferences, meetings, and seminars.
- Coordinate the manufacturing and distribution of sterile products, including intravenous admixtures, irrigating solutions, total parenteral nutrition solutions, chemotherapy products, and miscellaneous products.
- Train, supervise, educate, and review work of supportive personnel and students.
- Distribute, control, and keep records of all controlled substances.
- Assume “charge pharmacist” responsibilities as required, coordinating weekend and evening shifts, supervising part‑time pharmacists and supportive personnel, assigning work, delegating tasks, and handling problems arising in the absence of the director of pharmacy services.
- Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization, including remaining on campus during severe weather or disasters.
