Position: Physical Security Engineer (Data Centers)

Physical Security Engineer (Data Centers)

Base pay range: $/yr - $/yr. This role is available at any location in the United States; ideally near a Jacobs U.S. based office.

Responsibilities
  • Work on various projects as assigned by a Department Manager or Lead Engineer, participating in the entire design process from preliminary assessments to concept creation.
  • Lead designs with support from peers, SMEs, and BIM designers; resolve internal and external problems.
  • Create drawings, specifications, and schematics; calculate video storage, bandwidth usage, and power loads.
  • Coordinate across disciplines, identifying potential conflicts or inconsistencies with architectural, civil, electrical, and instrumentation teams.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline; master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license required.
  • 12+ years of experience in planning, designing, and commissioning physical security systems and/or communications networks.
  • In‑depth knowledge of physical security systems: video surveillance, access control, biometric systems, intrusion detection.
  • Experience conducting vulnerability and risk assessments.
  • Strong understanding of network technologies and cybersecurity principles.
  • Professional security certifications (CISSP, CPP, PSP, etc.) are a plus.
  • Project management experience is a plus.
Technical Expertise & Skills
  • Evaluating emerging security technologies and performing trade‑offs (e.g., multi‑megapixel cameras vs. thermal imaging).
  • Exceptional problem‑solving abilities.
  • Collaboration and constructive feedback within team environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, Revit, ACC, BIM
    360, AutoCAD, Micro Station, and CSI design and construction specifications.
  • Experience estimating and scheduling mid‑ to large‑scale design effort; knowledge of construction cost estimating for security implementation.
Preferred Leadership Experience
  • Leading projects and managing resources.
  • Mentoring junior staff.
  • Design management experience.
  • Experience in data center design.
