DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role involves the proficient operation of highway construction and maintenance machinery, alongside various manual labor tasks within a highway or bridge maintenance team. You will be essential with snow plowing and working at construction sites, both of which are essential for ensuring the safety of travelers on Pennsylvania roads. In addition to operating equipment, you will engage in manual labor, conduct minor repairs, and perform preventative maintenance on trucks and machinery.

When not operating equipment, you will also take on flagger duties to manage traffic flow.

To ensure safe operation and minimize equipment wear, you will make necessary field adjustments and carry out minor repairs and maintenance, which includes cleaning and servicing the machinery. You will also demonstrate the operation of assigned equipment to fellow employees and assist Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanics with repairs, while maintaining accurate equipment records. Working diligently to serve Pennsylvania each day is a fulfilling experience, allowing you to return home feeling accomplished and productive.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

* Full-time employment

* Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

* Travel, overtime, and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.

* Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position.

* Salary:
Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,988 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

* Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or

* Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or

* An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements :

* Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.

* Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

* All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.

* Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.

* This position requires operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.

* This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
