The Safety Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of transportation operations within the aviation and broader transportation sectors. By maintaining rigorous oversight of flight plans, aviation security measures, and transportation operations, the role ensures seamless and secure movement of goods and passengers. Ultimately, the Safety Coordinator contributes to creating a culture of safety that supports operational efficiency and regulatory compliance across all transportation modalities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Management, Aviation, Logistics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in transportation operations or safety coordination within the aviation or transportation industry.
- Strong knowledge of federal transportation safety regulations and aviation security standards.
- Proven ability to conduct safety audits and risk assessments in transportation environments.
- Excellent communication skills and proficiency in using safety management software and reporting tools.
- Certification in Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
- Experience with flight planning software and air freight logistics management.
- Familiarity with rail safety regulations and transportation security administration (TSA) protocols.
- Advanced training in emergency response and crisis management.
- Experience working in a multi-modal transportation environment including air, rail, and ground logistics.
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs and procedures for transportation operations including air freight and rail systems.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections at airports, rail yards, and logistics facilities to ensure compliance with federal and industry safety standards.
- Collaborate with airport management and transportation teams to review and approve flight plans and transportation schedules with a focus on safety and security.
- Investigate safety incidents and near-misses, prepare detailed reports, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements.
The required skills such as Transportation Operations, Flight Plan management, and Aviation Security are essential for daily oversight of safe and compliant transportation activities. The Safety Coordinator uses Transportation Management and Logistics Management skills to coordinate between various teams and ensure smooth, secure movement of goods and passengers.
