Juvenile Detention Shift Leaders | OPS Leaders

We are hiring Juvenile Detention Shift Leaders, OPS Leaders to join our team on the Juvenile Services unit at Abraxas Academy. As a Shift Leader, you will help improve the lives of at-risk youth in our community.

Abraxas Academy is located minutes off of Exit 298 of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Berks County and provides detention and treatment services for court committed youth.

Salary: $27.00 per hour
• Job Type: Full-time
• Shift: Second Shift
• Must be available to work weekends.

Responsibilities
  • Youth Detention Shift Leader duties include mentoring staff, monitoring processes on units, supervising and interacting with clients, observing client behavior, and documenting services in client files.
  • Oversee the daily activities of juvenile males in programming using acceptable behavioral management principles; exercise independent judgment in crisis situations.
  • Direct daily activities to ensure safety and security; maintain facility security (headcounts, room checks, client movement); supervise and train Youth Development Team Leaders.
  • Process intakes and screen clients; facilitate and document groups/meetings; administer or supervise self-administered medication when necessary.
  • Support the Abraxas philosophy and mission and promote the Seven Key Principles of care; demonstrate Safe Crisis Management techniques and skills.
Hiring Requirements
  • Associate's degree or sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university.
  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age
  • Driver's License
  • Physical exam that includes TB and drug testing
  • Criminal clearances (State Police, FBI and State Child Abuse Clearances)
  • Satisfactory completion of background screening and applicable pre-employment checks, including but not limited to employment and/or personal reference and driving records
  • Ability to work with computers and the software typically used by the department
  • Must pass both federal and state background checks which screen for crimes including drug-related crimes, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and repeated misdemeanors
