Position: Youth Development Specialist, Treatment
Location: Abraxas Academy, 1000 Academy Dr., Morgantown, PA 19543
Hiring Youth Development Specialists to join our team at Abraxas Academy in Morgantown, PA. Here, you will help at-risk adolescents build better futures.
Abraxas Academy provides detention and treatment services for court-committed youth and is located minutes off Exit 298 of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Berks County.
Job Type: Full-time
Shift: Second Shift. Must be available to work weekends.
Responsibilities- Direct the daily activities of juvenile males in programming using acceptable behavioral management principles.
- Exercise independent judgment in crisis situations.
- Interact with and supervise clients during daily activities to ensure safety and security.
- Maintain regular communication with supervisor and co-workers.
- Provide facility security including headcounts, room checks, and monitoring client movement.
- Observe client behavior and intervene as needed.
- Process intakes and screen clients according to program policy.
- Respond to emergencies (including evacuation, CPR, or first aid) and demonstrate Safe Crisis Management techniques.
- Must pass a drug test and both federal and state background checks.
- HS Diploma or GED
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid driver’s license
- Clearances (PA State Police, Child Abuse, FBI)
- Pre-employment physical exam, drug screen, TB test
- Ability to handle adolescents during crisis situations using Safe Crisis Management techniques
- Ability to enforce rules in a firm yet supportive manner
- Clear written and verbal communication; computer literate with Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Ability to learn facility rules, regulations, and licensing/accreditation requirements
- Good interpersonal skills; maintain professional boundaries with residents
Salary: $25.00 Hourly
