Position Summary
The Facilities Technician performs a wide range of building and grounds maintenance tasks to help ensure a safe, functional, and attractive campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position supports daily operations, routine maintenance, and small-to-mid-size projects across multiple trades, working independently and as part of a team.
Organization RoleThe Facilities Technician reports to the Lead Facilities Technician. This position works independently on assigned tasks and may assist in coordinating small projects or directing the work of other technicians as assigned. The Facilities Technician may also accompany and monitor contract vendors while on campus to ensure work is completed appropriately and in accordance with College standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform general building and grounds maintenance, including basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and landscaping tasks.
- Complete routine inspections and preventative maintenance of building systems and equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair facility-related issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Assist with small and mid-size renovation or maintenance projects; collaborate as a team member on larger projects.
- Prepare residential facilities for student move-in periods, including quarterly apartment and suite turnover.
- Perform maintenance and minor repair of mechanized equipment and tools.
- Support campus events through room setups, breakdowns, and logistical assistance.
- Assist with weather-related response efforts, including snow and ice removal and campus safety checks.
- Follow all established safety practices and procedures; use appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and coordinate with external vendors when services are performed on campus.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Several years of progressively responsible experience in facilities, building, or grounds maintenance preferred.
- Working knowledge of multiple maintenance trades (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or groundskeeping).
- Ability to diagnose and solve routine maintenance problems.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Regular exposure to mechanical equipment, power tools, cleaning agents, and maintenance materials.
- Physical demands include lifting, bending, climbing ladders, working at heights, and prolonged standing or walking.
- May be required to respond to after-hours maintenance needs of weather emergencies.
