General Job Description
The Senior Technician is a heavy equipment mechanic that specializes in the modernization and repair of cranes. This position may perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and upgrades; as well as solving complex problems when the crane malfunctions. The Technician must be self‑sufficient, demonstrate leadership, effective communication and professionalism, leading field technicians and acting as the liaison between HCSG management and customers.
The role operates in a safety‑first environment and requires on‑call availability, including after‑hour and weekend services as needed.
- Must be on‑call and provide after‑hour services as required.
- Troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and upgrade industrial hoists and cranes at customer locations.
- Train and mentor field technicians.
- Perform OSHA‑required hoist and crane inspections, generate inspection reports and repair orders.
- Communicate with the Service Manager and Branch Manager so that work can be scheduled and completed daily.
- Consult with customers on all repair and safety related issues and recommend solutions to improve their operations.
- Maintain all company‑issued equipment, vehicles, and assets in a safe and proper working order.
- Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and responsibly; notify supervisor of any deficiencies.
- Maintain supply of HCSG forms and miscellaneous materials in the company vehicle.
- Work cooperatively in a team environment.
- Attend company‑provided trainings and seminars as required.
- Participate in HCSG 5 Marks program.
- Other duties as assigned.
The work is labor intensive. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs daily and up to 100 lbs occasionally. Requires up to 90% frequent climbing, balancing, stooping/crouching, overhead reaching, bending, squatting, and prolonged standing and sitting. Also requires pushing, pulling, kneeling, and crawling. Requires great hand‑eye coordination. Height exposures frequently exceed 50 ft. Travel may be required 20–50% of the time, with varying shifts, on‑call, and overtime duties.
Travel out of town may be required at the company’s discretion.
Work is performed indoors or outdoors, depending on customer requirements, under varying temperature extremes. Summer temperatures can exceed 120°F. Frequently exposed to noise, heights, fumes, dust, and odors.
Minimum Qualifications- At least 5–7 years of crane repair & maintenance experience
- At least 3–4 years of electrical and/or mechanical experience in lieu of crane repair & maintenance experience.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Commitment to working and driving safely.
- Willingness to work at various heights.
- Basic computer skills for web‑based crane inspection programs.
- Excellent communication skills; able to work independently or as a team.
- Knowledge of hand tools and/or possession of hand tools.
- Vocational/Technical training certificate.
Must pass a pre‑employment drug test and background check (DISA) and submit to random and annual drug testing as required.
