Description:
Upstream Process Scientist
Qualifications:
• B.S./Masters in Biology, Bio/chemistry, Bio/chemical Engineering, or related science .
• B.S with 1-5years of relevant laboratory experience in fermentation and/or cell culture.
• Master's with 0-3years relevant laboratory experience in fermentation and/or cell culture.
Required Experience:
• General laboratory skills, experience with aseptic manipulations, pipettes, weighing.
• Experience in culturing bacterial or microbial or mammalian cells (plating, shake flasks, bioreactor work).
• Experience with upstream routine assays.
• Experience performing basic lab scale assays (pH, optical density, etc)
Preferred Experience:
• Experience with bioreactors for upstream bioprocessing work (Ambr
250, stainless steel reactors, glass bioreactors, single use bioreactors).
Software
Skills:
• Experience using formulas and linking spreadsheets in Excel
• Highly computer literate.
• Capable of quickly learning and adapting to new computer programs.
• Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills.
Personality:
• Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivated, adaptable, and displays a positive attitude.
• Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.

Vaccines and Advanced Biotechnologies (VAX) Process R&D is responsible for the development and clinical manufacturing of Drug Substance (DS) and Drug Product Intermediates (DPI) for the vaccine and advanced therapy pipeline, spanning from preclinical to commercialization stages. We are part of the Process R&D organization, which enables modality agnostic DS/DPI process development and clinical manufacturing for our company's pipeline. Our vaccines upstream process development team develops safe, scalable, robust, cost effective upstream processes that enable clinical and commercial manufacture of vaccines and adjuvants across all vaccine modalities.
Scientist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Prepare laboratory reagents, solutions and culture media
• Perform lab scale upstream processing of vaccine products and process intermediates (including possible work with Biosafety Level2 organisms)
• Setup process equipment for lab scale experiments
• Perform inprocess monitoring assays
• Analyze, collate, track, and report data back to client staff members Maintain records and test results following good laboratory practices (GLP) Work independently and efficiently
• Document work clearly and perform tests accurately
• Communicate effectively with client staff members
• Follow laboratory procedures as required to perform the above tasks, and escalate deviations/issues to client staff members in a timely fashion
