Position: Assoc Principal Scientist (Assoc. Director) Real World Evidence Capability Analytics
Location: West Point

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Associate Principal Scientist/Associate Director with expertise in conducting outcome research using real‑world data. This role requires the ability to analyze complex data sets, develop algorithms, and create innovative solutions to enhance data‑driven decision‑making processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and interpret large volumes of structured and unstructured real‑world patient‑level healthcare data, including administrative claims, EHR/EMR, disease registries, and public‑use databases.
  • Develop machine‑learning algorithms and statistical/survival analysis models to extract meaningful insights and evidence for outcome research.
  • Work closely with stakeholders in outcome research, medical affairs, statistical programming, and IT functions to provide data‑driven insights and solutions.
  • Present research findings in internal and external scientific congress meetings.
  • Lead Real‑World Evidence outcome research or advanced AI/machine‑learning research projects with minimal supervision.
  • Stay current with the latest research and technologies in data science and machine learning, proactively seeking opportunities to improve existing processes and methodologies.
Collaboration and Communication

Provide real‑world data expertise in internal and external collaborations, engaging stakeholders to translate analytical findings into actionable insights.

Project Management

Independently manage complex research projects, coordinating cross‑functional teams, timelines, and deliverables.

Continuous Learning and Innovation

Actively pursue new knowledge in data science, machine learning, and emerging technologies to advance the organization’s research capabilities.

Required

Skills & Qualifications
  • Proficiency in machine learning and statistical programming using R, SAS, or Python.
  • Advanced SQL skills for efficient data querying across complex datasets.
  • Hands‑on experience with real‑world data sources and a proven track record in generating real‑world evidence.
  • Expertise in cohort identification using ICD‑9‑CM, ICD‑10‑CM, SNOMED, LOINC, NDC, HCPCS, and CPT.
  • Experience developing study protocols for non‑interventional and methodological research studies.
  • Working knowledge of research project operations, including contracting and budget management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with attention to detail and precision in documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple analytical projects simultaneously with effective planning.
Required Education & Professional Experience
  • Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health, Data Science, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of post‑graduate experience in real‑world healthcare data research.
  • Doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, DrPH) with at least 2 years of post‑graduate experience in real‑world healthcare data research.
Preferred Experience & Skills
  • Strong foundational knowledge of statistical and machine‑learning concepts applied in real‑world healthcare data contexts.
  • Proven leadership of real‑world evidence studies within biomedical research or healthcare organizations.
  • Experience conducting outcome studies in heart failure, PAH, COPD, IBD, and ophthalmology.
  • Hands‑on experience with large language models such as BioBERT, MedBERT, or similar.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and support junior team members.
  • Co‑authorship of peer‑reviewed publications involving data science methodologies and/or participation in data‑focused competitions.
