Position Title About the Role

Keystone Cement Company is seeking a Resource Recovery (RR) Quality Assurance Specialist to support the RR laboratory by monitoring lab operations for Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC), evaluating QA/QC procedures, recommending corrective actions when problems are detected, and maintaining the QA/QC database.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor daily lab operations for quality assurance including reviewing sample data for accuracy, completeness, and acceptance. Review handwritten and computer-generated records for completeness and correct filing.
  • Make on-site evaluations in reviewing QA/QC procedures. Verify that lab QC and analytical procedures are being followed; perform QA internal audits, prepare QC and sample data for transmission and entry into computer database. Use judgement to stop laboratory operations or sample testing when corrective action is needed. Also, make recommendations to management to ensure that appropriate corrective actions are taken when a problem is detected.
  • Maintain computer database containing all results generated for the lab on the following sample types: solvent, coal, and kiln feed. Maintain records of all incoming samples, track samples through processing and analysis, and then appropriately disposing of samples at conclusion.
  • Prepare cyclic environmental reports required by facility permits and regulations. In this effort, work with laboratory and plant personnel to ensure compliance with environmental permits.
  • Perform monthly and quarterly calibration checks on supplemental lab equipment; perform airflow checks on ventilation hoods quarterly or when necessary; maintain records for calibration checks and equipment certifications. Track and maintain chemical reagents and standards received and used in the lab.
  • Generation of weekly and daily reports related to RR ops and quality control.
  • RR department billing. Responsible for coordination of A/P and A/R as is related to all waste fuel activities including transportation and disposal. Work/communicate with corporate accounting and sales staff to fulfill responsibilities. Prepare month end reports.
  • Fill in for Fuels Laboratory Manager for laboratory oversight during absences.
  • Fill in for any RR laboratory role for emergency coverage or training purposes only.
  • Exhibit knowledge of and ensure compliance with all safety regulations. Independently identify and correct safety hazards. Perform area inspections and accident investigations as required. Cooperate with all external inspectors.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, or related science field, with 24 credits in Chemistry.
  • Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational abilities.
  • Able to successfully interact in a team environment as well as work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Physically able to use all laboratory equipment to perform required testing.
  • Ability to perform visual inspections.
  • Respirator use, as needed.
