JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Substitute Staff Nurse

RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Student Support Services

Building Principal

Certified School Nurses

JOB GOALS: To assist the school nurse in maintaining and/or improving the health status of students, thus enabling them to profit fully from their educational experiences.

To assist the school nurse in promoting optimum health status and lifestyles for all students through the joint efforts of the home, school and community. Serving multiple buildings on the same campus.

QUALIFICATIONS: RN License Required

Current certification in CPR, First Aid & Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Pediatric/Adolescent/Ambulatory Care nursing experience (preferred, but not required)

Bachelor's degree (BSN preferred, but not required)

Certification as a School Nurse by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (preferred, but not required)

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist the district school nurses in providing nursing care to staff and students in district health offices, as well as off campus for district sponsored trips and other activities. Follow school district's medication policies and standing orders for medications and other protocols. Administer emergency first aid treatment to students and staff. Follow students' individualized medication orders and/or health plans as directed by students' physicians and/or district school nurses.

Documents students and staff visits in health office software.

Assist the district school nurses in yearly health office screenings, such as BMI, hearing, and vision, as needed under the direction of the school nurse.

Assist the district school nurses with clerical tasks such as entering immunization or other health information for students in the health office software.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Day to Day rate for Substitute Nurses is $125/day.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the applicable policies of the South Fayette School District.
