About This RoleThe Nurse Practitioner (NP) works under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site physicians, offering a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. The NP ensures proper documentation of services, communicates scheduling changes, and arranges coverage when unavailable for extended periods.
What You Bring to the Table- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Advanced degree in an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
- Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience with corrections experience preferred
- Patience and tact to deal with the inmate patient population; ability to work effectively in the corrections environment
- Scheduling flexibility required to rotate hours, shifts, and cover emergencies
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment
- Current CPR certification
- Provide medical care to inmates, including conducting exams, chronic care clinics, and infirmary rounds
- Maintain accurate and legible progress note documentation in SOAP format and adhere to formulary guidelines
- Respond to emergencies and make logical decisions regarding non‑formulary drugs or off‑site referrals
- Support existing policies and procedures for admission, transfer, and specialty consultant referrals
- Maintain confidentiality and provide input into facility committees as requested
