Through active research and liaison, this position establishes and maintains working relationships with internal and external contacts to plan and deliver various training programs for Global Cooperation. These programs are consistent with and support ASTM International’s mission and business plan and build participants’ knowledge of and capacity to actively engage in ASTM International and its various activities and programs.
Organization RoleThis managerial position reports to the Head, Global Outreach. Incumbent develops and maintains an understanding of issues related to international standardization and market sectors served by ASTM, as well as, an overarching knowledge of ASTM and the global business environment. The individual in this role is able to explain the purpose and objectives of ASTM’s Global Cooperation program and the benefits afforded to program partners.
Incumbent is able to identify and explain the WTO/TBT principles for international standards development organizations and the multiple path approach to international standardization.
The individual in this role develops an awareness and understanding of capacity building and technical assistance provided to developing nations by US‑based public entities, SDOs, and other private sector entities and pursues opportunities with same.
In addition, the incumbent supports ASTM’s global outreach efforts, with an initial focus on Africa that may evolve over time to include other regions. The incumbent maintains liaison with African MoU partners and engages with relevant organizations active in the region, applying insights gained to help inform and refine ASTM’s broader global outreach strategy.
Responsibilities- Implementation of ASTM’s Global Cooperation Related Training Programs
Key/Representative
Activities:
- Developing the knowledge and ability to explain the terms and benefits of the MoU
- Planning and delivering routinely scheduled and one‑time programs for international delegations, in face‑to‑face and virtual settings, either bilingually or with the assistance of an interpreter
Leading planning and delivery of training programs (responsibility includes budget formation and oversight) related to the general virtual capacity building program and programs funded in partnership with ASTM or independently:
- Leading the formulation and implementation of attachment programs and MoU Technical Visitor Grant Programs (TVGP)
- Investigations and Proposals – Non‑ASTM Sponsored Training
Supplement ASTM International’s global outreach to developing economies by:
- Routinely investigating training opportunities and sponsor ships available through U.S.
-based public, and private sectors. Working with Global Policy, Cooperation and Communications, prioritize organizations that have resources and share objectives with ASTM. Build relationships with same to position ASTM for consideration as program leader, collaborator, or participant. Support implementation of resulting collaboration or awards as assigned. - Global Outreach
Support and promote ASTM International’s global outreach to Africa by:
- Assessing the needs of MOU signatories in Africa. Developing and overseeing programs to fulfill identified needs ensuring consistency with ASTM and Global Cooperation objectives
Promotion and Publicity
- Gather, organize and provide information to various individuals and departments to increase awareness of Global Cooperation’s outreach by:
- Drafting and delivering presentations to non‑US-based groups or individuals on a variety of ASTM International procedural or administrative topics, in “virtual” or on‑site settings.
