Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Location: Simpson
PURPOSE
This position is primarily responsible for the repair and maintenance of production mold tools.
EDUCATION AND/OR PROFESSIONAL LICENSE(S)/EXPERIENCEMinimum two- (2) year Technical Certificate from college, technical or vocational school; or 5 or more years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Mechanical background is essential. Knowledge of industrial electricity would be considered a plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Diligent, punctual and disciplined. Able to manage own time to meet objectives.
- Flexible and willing to adapt work pace and methods to handle changes, prioritization and meet deadlines
- Autonomy – is able to work alone and assume responsibility. Puts own lee way to good use and exercises discernment in making decisions and taking action.
- Strong mechanical knowledge and use of hand and power and shop tools.
- Use process improvement principles to enhance the overall mold tool management system.
- Basic knowledge of measurement tools, i.e calipers, micrometers, scales, dial indicators etc.
- Ability to maintain tight tolerances while working with meticulousness, precision and cleanliness
- Mold changes, (Air, Ground, Optics)
- Mold insert changes, (Air, Ground, Optics)
- General mold maintenance
- Inspecting all molds and record findings
- Insert / base cleaning
- General repairs
- Coordinate internal / external repairs with production, process engineering, and design engineering.
- Be instrumental in the development, maintenance, accuracy and all facets of a tool database which will be kept up to date all times. This data will contain critical information about mold tooling to include current tool location, condition, programs, sizes, etc.
- Enter all repairs and changes into Micro Main maintenance program.
- Maintain all mold repair equipment in good working condition.
- Assist Production Maintenance technicians as needed.
- Schedule flexibility to support critical deadlines may be required.
This is a non-supervisory position
CONTACT WITH OTHERSInternally, must be able to communicate effectively with fellow employees and machine operators at all levels of organization. Externally with outside vendors/contractors in determining the exact nature of equipment problems, developing solutions, giving instruction on the installation of equipment & utilities and ordering replacement parts.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL/COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTSEmployee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; manual dexterity to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The individual must have a high level of comprehension, and a high level of general, verbal, written, and numerical intelligence.
Works majority of the day in a climate-controlled environment, with the exception of or otherwise specified, performing work in the warehouse or manufacturing areas which are subject to changes in temperature and/or noise.
TRAVELGenerally, travel is not required
LOCATIONGentex’s Carbondale facility is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania in Lackawanna County. Carbondale, PA is about twenty miles north of Scranton, PA, 50 miles south of Binghamton, NY, and about 125 miles from New York City and Philadelphia. The area hosts numerous nearby state parks, nature preserves and local colleges and universities, including The University of Scranton and Marywood University. Northeast Pennsylvania is a beautiful area and offers an excellent cost of living.
