Overview

Consider joining the Pennex family as a Homogenizing Furnace Operator in our Wellsville, PA location. The Homogenizing Furnace Operator ensures that all activities conducted in the Homogenization process are completed in a safe, efficient manner.

Responsibilities
  • Loads logs and spacers onto pads and levels the load in accordance with standard procedures. Positions the furnace and the load to achieve proper clearances for furnace movement.
  • Ensures that all equipment for the furnace and quench process operate as required to achieve the process outputs described in our standards.
  • Operates the crane and/or forklift for loading logs as needed.
  • Collaborates with the Yard and Saw Teams to load logs into and out of the log yard behind the presses, as well as log movement from the saw tables as required.
  • Ensures the homogenization cycle is correctly run for the logs as required, including the correct PLC program selection at the furnace control. Identify and elevate issues to the maintenance department as needed.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on all mobile equipment used in the department at the start of each shift.
  • Stages next load for the Homogenizing furnace during the cycle being run currently.
  • Keeps furnace area free from debris, putting scrap/trash in appropriate places.
  • Bands up logs as needed for customer shipments or delivery to the yard.
  • Reports any maintenance requirements for all related equipment daily to the Maintenance team through the QR code submission system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of industrial equipment or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Operating PLC and hot‑work experience is preferred.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write simple reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively in one‑on‑one situations to foremen, other crew members, and supervisor.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must possess a valid Forklift Operator’s license and have prior forklift experience.
  • Must be able to operate overhead crane.
  • Must complete Molten Metal training.
  • Must be able to pass pre‑employment physical and drug screen.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States; visa sponsor ships are not available.
  • Must have regular attendance.
