Waste Area Technician

The Waste Area Technician supports greenhouse operations by ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant organic waste removal processes. This role includes operating and maintaining equipment, performing preventative maintenance and repairs, and assisting with waste handling as needed. The position requires adherence to GMP, HACCP, and safety standards while maintaining product quality, equipment reliability, and adaptability to changing operational needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Expected to adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.
• Perform daily start up and shut down of equipment and processes related to greenhouse organic waste removal
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment associated with organic waste removal including but not limited to: greasing bearings, checking oil levels, cleaning and calibrating electronic level sensors, checking conveyor belts and screw augers, writing repair work orders, etc.
• Disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of peat press, centrifuge, and centrifugal pumps.
• Make necessary pvc plumbing repairs.
• Ensure equipment runs optimally to support greenhouse operations and throughput
• Assist groundskeeping with removal of waste peat if needed.
• Adapt to changing environment and work pace dependent upon throughput needs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

• High School diploma or GED equivalent

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

• Technical school diploma
• Prior knowledge or experience in industrial maintenance, plumbing, water treatment, or electrical
