Machine Operator, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
JOB SUMMARY
This position operates machines completing one or more processes toward the manufacturing of exhaust pipe assemblies and components. Perform as an active team member in supporting and performing all the tasks within a cell group.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES- Perform as a team member of a cellular operating group, which requires the ability to learn, perform preventative maintenance, set‑up and operate machines, and rotate to all workstations within each cell.
- Handle materials and tools, operate machines, assemble and inspect all product of varying shape, sizes and weights.
- Perform the above within acceptable quality, quantity, performance and safety standards.
- Perform safety checks and preventative maintenance on each machine to assure machines are in safe working condition and complete daily safety check‑off lists.
- Maintain station control of operations, including machine parts to specification, inspect parts to assure the quality standards are met, identify production and quality problems and assist Team Leader with problem correction.
- Perform within acceptable safety, environmental, quality, productivity and performance standards as outlined in plant policies, handbooks and applicable work instructions.
- Overtime as required/requested.
- Follow machine repair procedures if breakdown occurs. Complete basic repairs and adjustments of minor problems. Report all machine problems to Team Leader and/or Maintenance.
- Perform SPC, visual and gauge inspection, and complete charts and required forms.
- Clean the machine and surrounding work area.
- Operate machines as assigned to assist co‑workers at other workstations as needed.
- Perform or assist in part changeovers.
- Assist in 5S advancement.
- Assist in implementation of Lean principles.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to read and understand work orders, machine manuals, directions, charts and safety regulations.
- Mechanical aptitude to operate machines and the ability to perform basic preventative maintenance and minor repairs.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to follow directions and flexibility to respond to problems and changes in job assignments.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Ability to learn and perform all jobs in assigned Cell group and rotates to each workstation as needed.
- Knowledge of the building process and construction principles.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and building codes.
- Flexibility to work long hours and other work schedules as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Extensive standing, walking, climbing, stooping, bending over, reaching, twisting, arm wrist and hand motion.
- Good visual ability.
- Frequent skin exposure to chemical‑based fluids such as coolant, drawing compounds, lubricating oils, etc.
- This job is performed on the production plant floor and may be assigned to any machines.
- Varying temperatures (cold to hot).
- Infrequent exposure to outside weather environment.
- Fast‑paced work environment.
- Small, confined space around some machines/equipment.
- Wet, slippery floors in some areas.
