Press Operator – Metal Exchange

Consider joining the Pennex family as a Press Operator at our Wellsville, PA location. The Press Operator operates a hydraulic extrusion press and an extrusion puller in a safe and efficient manner ensuring proper quality and highest productivity standards are met.

• The Press Operator is responsible for setting billet length, furnace temperature controls, ram speed, and puller program for optimum production and quality.
• Inspects metal for quality problems, such as pick up, tear out, and die lines. Makes appropriate changes to operational set up to try to correct quality issues. Reports problems and works with Foremen and/or the Lead Person to improve productivity and quality.
• Assists Lead Out position with set ups, tear downs, and changeovers.
• Rolls logs when needed, ensuring production is moving at the correct pace and metal is placed correctly on the press.
• Minimizes downtime during die changeover by having bolster and next die ready for production ahead of time.
• Ensures Lead Out knows what the next die change is, when it will be needed, and what materials are needed to complete set up.
• Changes dummy blocks as directed by management.
• Checks dies and bolsters ensuring they are set up properly before starting a new job.
• Assists with set up of water boxes, water pans, cooling fans and other special requirements for various alloys.
• Regularly checks all equipment and immediately reports possible problems to the Shift Foreman or Lead Person.
• Completes daily Press Operator preventative maintenance (PM) and fills out PM checklist.
• Performs lock out/tag procedures before asking maintenance to troubleshoot any issues the press is having.
• Fills out any necessary paperwork during shift.
• Maintains a neat and orderly work area and assists with general housekeeping of the press department.
• Follows all safety and company rules and policies regarding work and safety practices.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent

• One or more years of experience and/or training
• Prefer previous hydraulic press operation or minimum of metal machining experience.

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
• Ability to perform these operations using units of American weight measurement, volume, and distance.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to operate tow motor, function independently or in a team environment and possess good verbal and written communication skills.
• Highly motivated, self-driven, and eager to learn and apply new skills.
• Attentive to details and follows through on assigned tasks and commitments.
• Must have regular attendance.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States, visa sponsor ships are not available.

• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
