Apprentice - Machinist at Penn United Technologies, Inc.

Penn United Technologies, Inc. is now accepting applications for a full‑time Apprentice Machinist to join our Component Manufacturing team at the Carbide Division. This is an excellent opportunity to launch a hands‑on career in the precision manufacturing industry with on‑the‑job training and advancement pathways based on your skill development.

The role requires flexibility to rotate among daylight and afternoon shifts. A 10% shift premium is offered for non‑daylight shifts.

Responsibilities
  • Read prints and job orders to determine dimensions and machine set‑up.
  • Set‑up and operate various machining equipment such as 5‑axis CNC lathes and CNC mills to machine components to precise customer specifications.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Verify conformance of finished workpiece to specifications using precision measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Attend on‑site apprenticeship classes in addition to on‑the‑job learning while performing responsibilities on the shop floor. This is a state recognized apprenticeship program leading to Journey worker papers upon completion of the 4‑year training program.
Qualifications

Knowledge &

Skills:

  • Excellent math and mechanical skills/aptitude.
  • Ability and desire to perform precision work.
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading and precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers strongly preferred, but not required.
  • Must be able to work shifts, lift up to 40 lbs., and stand 8–10 hours per day.

Education/

Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience with lathes, mills, and/or surface grinders is preferred, but not required.
