Electrical and Instrumentation Technician
Under the guidance of E/I & C Tech II, III, and Senior Technicians, this role assists with the repair of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems. Responsibilities include maintaining, diagnosing, and correcting micro‑processor functions related to process controls, motors, valves, transmitters, and other sensing devices. The position also involves working with automated control systems and related peripheral equipment, ensuring the safety of self and others, following prescribed safety procedures and techniques, and maintaining good housekeeping practices.
RoleAnd Responsibilities
- Assists and performs work on electro/pneumatic/hydraulic/digital/drive control systems and related equipment in all work areas.
- Applies basic electrical theory (Ohm’s law, AC/DC theory, motors) to troubleshoot industrial systems.
- Applies basic instrumentation knowledge (transmitters, valves, solenoids, pumps) to troubleshoot industrial systems.
- Understands control logic for automated systems including PLC, DCS, and drive systems.
- Uses logic and critical thinking to troubleshoot production equipment and change control hardware such as I/O cards.
- Reads and interprets electrical/electronic wiring diagrams or loop sheets.
- Diagnoses and corrects troubles in industrial production systems following manufacturer manuals.
- Utilizes tools and test equipment (amp meters, voltmeters, oscilloscopes, digital meters, diagnostic interfaces).
- Maintains records and logbooks of equipment performance and operation.
- Supports operation of valves, cylinders, motors, and distribution systems through regular maintenance per SOPs and industry best practices.
- Assists E/I & C Techs II, III, Automation Engineers, and Senior E/I & C technicians as directed.
- Assists assembly and repair of PC‑based systems and learns related software for process automation equipment.
- Diagnoses and changes camera system components with support from other E/I & C levels.
- Provides 24/7 coverage with crew assignments as needed, ensuring safety and efficiency.
- Develops documentation for new projects and updates existing documentation as changes occur.
- Supports Electrician and Instrument apprentices in their trade development.
- Operates lifts and PIT equipment when required.
- Follows all site policies, including Electrical safe work practices (NFPA‑70E).
- Assists startup of new or upgraded systems.
- Attends fire extinguisher training and follows notification procedures during small fires.
- Collaborates with the Pixelle Industrial Fire Team as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements:
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) from an accredited two‑year college or technical school.
- Alternatively, a minimum of six months to one year of directly related experience and/or training.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Technical Proficiencies:
- Ability to comprehend and interpret complex documents such as safety protocols, schematics, operating instructions, procedural manuals, and quality feedback documentation.
- Proficiency in composing detailed reports and professional correspondence.
- Competence in using work order management systems.
Mathematical & Analytical Skills:
- Perform proportions, percentages, area and volume calculations.
- Apply fundamental concepts of algebra and geometry.
Analytical Skills:
- Define complex problems.
- Collect and analyze data.
- Establish factual bases.
- Draw valid conclusions.
Technical Interpretation:
- Advanced ability to interpret extensive technical instructions presented in mathematical formats and diagrammatic representations.
- Manage multiple abstract and concrete variables simultaneously.
Work Schedule Flexibility:
- Willingness and ability to work swing shifts.
- Readiness to work overtime as operational needs dictate.
