Position Summary

The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) serves as a key member of MHY Family Services’ Executive Leadership Team, responsible for driving philanthropic growth, brand advancement, and community engagement. This leader will design and execute a comprehensive strategy to raise $2 million annually through diversified revenue streams—individual giving, grants, events, corporate and foundation partnerships, and planned giving—while positioning MHY as a recognized, trusted, and celebrated leader in providing hope and healing to youth and families across Pennsylvania.

The CAO will oversee all aspects of fundraising, communications, and marketing, ensuring alignment with MHY’s mission, values, and strategic priorities. This individual will be both a visionary strategist and a hands‑on builder, leading with creativity, accountability, and partnership across departments.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Vision
  • Serve as the chief architect of MHY’s comprehensive fundraising and marketing strategy to achieve and sustain $2 million in annual philanthropic support.
  • Partner with the CEO and Board of Directors to strengthen a culture of philanthropy and brand advocacy throughout the organization.
  • Lead and mentor the Development and Marketing team, fostering collaboration, innovation, and measurable results.
  • Align development and marketing priorities with MHY’s strategic plan, financial goals, and program growth initiatives.
Fundraising & Resource Development
  • Design and execute an integrated annual fundraising plan that includes major gifts, annual giving, grants, events, sponsor ships, and planned giving.
  • Build and manage a strong donor pipeline, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual and institutional donors.
  • Develop and manage relationships with foundations, corporations, and community partners to secure grant funding and sponsor ships.
  • Lead the MHY’s fundraising efforts and ensure proper governance, reporting, and donor recognition practices.
  • Oversee grant strategy, submissions, and compliance in partnership with program leadership and finance.
Marketing, Branding & Communications
  • Lead all external communications, marketing, and public relations initiatives to increase MHY’s visibility and community reputation.
  • Advance a unified, compelling MHY brand across all platforms—digital, print, media, and events.
  • Oversee the creation of marketing collateral, digital content, social media presence, website updates, and storytelling efforts.
  • Serve as MHY’s ambassador at community events, conferences, and media opportunities to enhance recognition and engagement.
Board & Donor Engagement
  • Partner with the CEO and Board of Directors to support fundraising strategy, donor cultivation, and campaign leadership.
  • Provide regular reports and data‑driven insights on fundraising and marketing performance.
  • Train and support Board members in fundraising, stewardship, and community engagement.
Operations & Management
  • Develop and manage the department’s budget and revenue goals.
  • Ensure data integrity and effective use of donor management systems and analytics.
  • Supervise development and marketing staff and oversee vendors, consultants, and contractors as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFRE preferred.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit fundraising and marketing, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated success in achieving or exceeding multi‑million‑dollar annual fundraising goals.
  • Proven expertise in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, as well as grant development and corporate partnerships.
  • Strong understanding of brand management, communications, and marketing best practices.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Collaborative, strategic, and mission‑driven leader with a growth mindset and high integrity.
