Job Summary
The Manufacturing Maintenance Manager oversees the maintenance team to ensure optimal performance and reliability of manufacturing equipment and processes. This role involves developing and implementing maintenance strategies, managing repair and upgrade projects, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The manager collaborates with production teams to minimize downtime and improve operational efficiency while leading continuous improvement initiatives. Strong leadership, technical expertise, and project management skills are essential to drive productivity and support the company's manufacturing goals.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Safety:
Consider safety throughout operations, ensure adherence to policies and procedures, continuously analyze processes for improvement opportunities, maintain a safe and clean environment, and ensure compliance with regulations. - Troubleshooting and downtime minimization:
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a variety of shop machinery and equipment, including shears, press brakes, turrets, PLC systems, and robotic equipment. Maintain ongoing communication with relevant departments regarding equipment downtime and ensure maintenance support during all manufacturing hours, including night and weekend shifts. - Facility maintenance:
Perform basic and routine facilities maintenance, construction, and repair tasks, evaluate external service contracts, and provide recommendations. - Preventive maintenance:
Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories, ensure scheduled preventive maintenance tasks and work orders are completed on time, and maintain accurate records through maintenance software. - Product and process optimization:
Evaluate equipment downtime, capacity, efficiency, and safety data; recommend improvements or replacements; evaluate and test new equipment; prepare and implement qualification and onboarding plans; serve as project manager for multiple projects; supervise maintenance and manufacturing engineering personnel; oversee employee training, development, engagement, and retention. - Recruitment:
Participate in recruitment preparation, review resumes, interview candidates, and select staff in cooperation with Human Resources. - Training and development:
Develop and maintain training documentation and schedules; ensure training covers equipment and technologies; maintain refresher training schedule; provide ongoing feedback; train production workers on preventive maintenance techniques. - Performance management:
Evaluate employee performance, address conduct and performance issues, complete performance reviews, and administer disciplinary action and improvement plans in cooperation with HR. - Administration:
Manage employee timecards, PTO requests, and ensure accuracy. - Other duties as assigned.
- Assess, problem‑solve, and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
- Effective problem solving, judgment, and independent thinking for challenging issues.
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen).
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate and influence across functional areas.
- Handle frequent interruptions, meet tight deadlines, and manage conflict effectively.
- Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
- Required:
10+ years of related experience and training; forklift certification and experience; programming and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs; repairs and maintenance of robotic equipment. - Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical/automation engineering; experience with Microsoft Office products.
Duties involve frequent movement between plant office, loading docks, and manufacturing floor. The individual experiences moderate factory noise, welding illumination, and occasional outdoor work during loading. PPE is required, including steel‑toed shoes and safety glasses.
