This position is part-time and is from Monday – Friday, 4 PM to 8 PM. The pay is $17.75/hr it is located at the federal courthouse in downtown Indianapolis (address: 46
E. Ohio St., Indianapolis, IN 46204). This janitorial position is a result of the Ability One program in partnership with Goodwill Industries and the federal government to provide healthy operations and environments at local federal facilities. The Ability One program is one of the largest sources of employment in the United States for people who are blind or have significant disabilities.

Role overview
:
The Janitor keeps the premises of the office building or other commercial or institutional buildings in a clean and orderly condition. Cleans office areas, courtrooms, hallways, lobbies, breakrooms/cafeterias, restrooms, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other assigned work areas.
- Cleans and polishes lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, and trim.
- Cleans and disinfects furniture and equipment.
- Polishes metalwork.
- Wipes down walls, ceilings, and woodwork.
- Washes windows, door panels, and sills.
- Empties wastebaskets and cleans ashtrays.
- Transports trash and waste to the disposal area.
- Replenishes bathroom supplies.
- Communicates with Goodwill management and customers when appropriate and as needed.
- Transports small equipment or tools between departments.
- Sets up tables and chairs in auditoriums or halls.
- Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors.
- Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.
- Degree and Credential Requirements - NONE. Candidates should demonstrate capability and how prior experiences contribute. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Communication Skills - Attentive listening, asks clarifying questions, reads and comprehends basic work-related documents.
- General Labor Skills - Able to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions and handle standardized situations.
- Safety Awareness - Recognizes risks, applies safety measures, and follows safety protocols.
- Janitorial Skills - Performs cleaning activities by hand in specific areas, including dusting, sweeping, mopping, and disinfecting bathrooms. Able to learn usage of janitorial tools and cleaning chemical solutions.
- Floor Cleaning Equipment Expertise - Ability to operate floor care equipment and clean carpets and hard floors per manufacturer instructions.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable people with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
- Moderate to hard physical work required: walking, frequent use of hands, occasional stooping/kneeling/crouching, lifting up to 25 pounds. Regular exposure to dust and debris. Noise level generally low.
- Visual Acuity - Close and distance vision; ability to adjust focus.
- Background Screening - Pre-employment background check required.
