Job DescriptionThis is a union bid position.
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Support Services and University Properties, the candidate will handle small projects for the Support Services department, such as painting and related general building projects, flooring repairs and maintenance, and provide assistance to Mail Services as needed. The position requires skills in general construction practices including floor repair, painting, wall repair and dealing with issues that arise while repairing, replacing or removing construction materials to complete the assignment.
Basic knowledge of building infrastructure in particular; water infiltration issues, boilers and/or heating, ventilation and air conditioning units, fire alarm and sprinkler systems for visual checks of off-site properties.
When working in Mail Services, this position will take instruction from the Mail Services Manager and is responsible for the sorting and processing of mail and packages. Will be assigned work on a Pitney Bowes mailing machine on occasion. Additional responsibilities will include sorting, delivering and pick up of mail throughout campus during peak times and campus delivery of packages. Will handle confidential and sensitive mail according to the guidelines established by the United States Post Office and the Campus Mail Service.
Rate- $31.24/hr
RequirementsCandidates should have a minimum of three years documented experience in general construction.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license, and the ability to be insured by University’s provider. Proven ability to manage and participate in multiple projects in a productive and safe manner. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage time effectively. Self-starter with the ability to analyze situations and develop solutions to problems with minimal supervision. Must have excellent communication and basic computer skills, leadership skills and knowledge of the day to day mail services operation.
An ability to perform heavy and repetitive physical labor, lifting up to 50 lbs.
The ability to communicate/comprehend both verbally and in writing. This includes: reading and understanding work schedules and instructions, label warnings; writing work orders, taking direction and communicating with staff, students, and faculty.

This is a driving position. Individuals will be required to provide information verifying a valid driver’s license, submit a DMV driving record, and comply with University guidelines regarding insurability.
